カリフォルニアアシカは、北アメリカ西岸からカリフォルニア半島南端にかけて生息し、成長したオスは体長240cm体重300kg以上、メスは体長200cm体重100kgになります。英語ではカリフォルニアシーライオンとよばれていますが、迫力ある名前とは違い、性格はかなり臆病です。自然界では、寝ているときも見張り役のアシカが起きていて、大声で危険を知らせます。
California sea lions live along the western shore of North America to the Baja California Peninsula. Adult males can grow up to 240 cm in length and weigh more than 300 kg. Adult females can reach 200 cm long and weigh about 100 kg. Despite their name, they actually have a quite timid personality. In the wild, one individual will act as a lookout while the rest of the group are napping, he/she will cry out loudly to alert the group when danger approaches.
