チンアナゴ、ニシキアナゴは、体長40cm程になるアナゴの仲間で、砂に細長い穴を掘って生活しています。水槽を観察していると、昼と夜では全く違った様子を観察することができます。昼間は体の半分ほどを穴の外に出して、エサのプランクトンを食べたり、時にはお隣同士でケンカをしていることもあります。夜は全身を巣穴の中に隠して身を守っています。
Spotted garden eels and splendid garden eels can grow to about 40 cm long. They dig narrow, long holes in the sand and live in there. If you observe the tank, they behave very differently during the day and night. During the day, they stick half of their bodies out of the hole, and you can see them eating plankton or fighting with their neighbors! At night, they hide in their holes to protect themselves.
