Both of common carp and crucian carp are common freshwater fish in Japan. The common carp can be distinguished from the crucian carp by the four “whiskers” around its mouth. Also, the common carp has a tooth in its throat, it is believed to be strong enough to bend coins; it uses this “Pharyngeal tooth”to crack the shells of river snails and get to the flesh.
