ミナミトビハゼは魚でありながら、主に陸上で生活する生き物です。普通の魚は鰓で呼吸をしますが、ミナミトビハゼは陸上生活に適応するためエラ呼吸だけではなく、皮膚呼吸もすることができます。水に入ることもありますが、すぐに陸上にあがってしまうほど陸上を好んでいるようです。
