Fish that raise their babies in their mouth

Cardinal fish such as Sphaeramia nematoptera and Zoramia viridiventer protect their eggs through mouthbrooding. When females lay eggs, males would store the eggs in their mouth to protect them. The males do not eat anything until the eggs are hatched, meanwhile, they send fresh seawater to the eggs by forcing water through their mouth and gills.
