クマノミは、イソギンチャクの触手の間に隠れるように生活して、外敵から身を守っています。他の魚がイソギンチャクの触手に触れると、刺胞とよばれるイソギンチャクの針に刺されてしまいますが、クマノミは、特別な粘液が体を覆っているので、刺されることはありません。
Clown anemonefish received their name because they make home in the tentacles of anemone to hide from predators. The anemone’s stinging cells act as self-defence as other fish touch its tentacles, but why are the clown anemonefish safe to swin around? That’s because their bodies are covered with a special slimy liquid that protects them from the stinging cells.
